[Commonplace book of theological notes], [late 17th century].

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of notes on moral, philosophical, and theological subjects, arranged under over a hundred topical headings such as disputes, drunkenness, envy and malice, God, humility, idleness, preachers and preaching, sacrament, silence, and time. The entries are most freqently aphorisms and proverbs pertaining to the heading, but also include several citations from classical Greek sources, as well as citations from such contemporary works as Jeremy Taylor's Life of Jesus Christ. Occasionally, they also refer to other notes; for example, under Speech, the author writes, "See also the notes I have taken out of the Art of Speaking."
